Organic Farming
There is more and more evidence that chemical based
fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides are extremely harmful
to human health. Conventional agriculture relies heavily on
chemical fertilizers and toxic pesticides, which are harmful
to human health, and which enter the food supply, penetrate
water sources, harm the health of livestock, deplete the soil, devastate
natural eco-systems, and contaminate the foods grown for the
general public. In addition to which, there are over 7000
artificial and/or chemical preservatives and additives
permitted in non-organic food including colorings,
stabilizers, fillers, residual antibiotics, hydrogenated fats,
etc. none of which are permitted in organic foods.
What is Biodynamics ?
Biodynamic agriculture is a system of organic agriculture that
has proved to be very effective throughout the world.
Biodynamic techniques enhance, rejuvenate, and maintain
soil quality. Cow horns and cow dung, after being buried
together in the earth, make the most wonderful humus to spread
on the land. This improves the structure of the soil
dramatically and quickly. Good soil structure means better
water-holding capacity, which means better control, with
consequently less loss of topsoil, which results better and
deeper roots and less need for irrigation, which means deeper
soil and more natural fertility. Bio-dynamic technology, with
its informed use of the various preparations, will maintain
soil fertility for years to come in a wholly natural way. It
will support the production of a plentiful supply of nourishing
food.
