CURRY LEAF OIL (Murraya koenigii)
The curry leaf is a small tree native to India, and can be
found growing almost everywhere in the Indian subcontinent
excluding the higher ranges of the Himalayas. In the East, its
range extends into Burma. Also
Murraya koenigii is distributed from South and East Asia to
Australia. The plant is most valued on account of the spicy
odor and resistance of the leaf, stem, bark and root to insect and
microbial attack. The curry leaf tree is cultivated largely for its fragrant leaves which have also been found to yield
essential oil.
The essential oil extracted from the leaves of Murraya
koenigii has been found effected against Pythium
aphanidermatum and Rhizoctonia solani.
Chemical constitution:
The chemical constituents of essential oil are ß -
caryophyllene and ß - gurjunene , sesquiterpenes.
